About 14-15 weeks into my pregnancy I was having a really hard time with everything. I was in pain, I thought I was going to miscarry our baby and it was just really rough on me. I also needed to get out and have fun with a bunch of girls and do girly things. Well of course my husband would always hear me saying that and he knew that I needed it. So in July he secretly told all of his sisters that I was really needing a girls night and that they should through me a surprise baby shower since I have never had a surprise party my whole life. Shocking I know!
Jon was helping his sisters plan for everything. From asking me random questions about what my favorite things are and if it wasn't the answer he wanted to hear than he would just keep asking the question over and over again. Some of the questions were; what's your favorite place to eat out at?, what's your favorite movie to watch just for fun?, what's your favorite kind of food, mexican, italian, chinese, etc? Some other questions that he would ask me is what if someone wants to get us a gift for the baby, what do I tell them to get? I would always tell him no more clothes since the baby already has enough but then he would always point out to me that you can never have too many clothes for a baby. So I would just say "Whatever they want to get us then would be great."
All the questions stopped when he finally got the answers that he wanted to hear. August rolls around and my brother in laws birthday was on Friday August 12th and his wife Heather sent me a text message saying that they were going to do a birthday party for him on Saturday the 13th of August and they would either do pizza or hot dogs. After getting the text message I was pretty excited to have a get together since it has been awhile since we have had one and it also meant that I wouldn't have to come up with something to fix for dinner and clean up the mess. I was also looking forward to playing some games and just relaxing.
Saturday rolls around and I was trying to get ready when I kept on having contractions. They were only Braxton Hicks contractions but they were pretty painful. Needless to say it took me awhile to get ready. Jon got home from work and he was getting ready and he also knew that I was having contractions and that if they didn't stop that I was going to have him take me in to be seen. Luckily they stopped but I now wasn't feeling all that well. He kept on asking me what could he do to help me feel better. Everything that I said he would just rely ok. He suggested that I take some of my tylenol 3 to help me feel better. Which I ended up taking before we left our house to head over to his sister's house.
Anyways we get to his sister's house and say "hi" to everyone that was up stairs and then Heather asks us if we have seen the projector that's all set up downstairs now with no cords hanging on the wall. So we went down to see it. At the time I am still thinking that it's a birthday party for Tim (my brother in law). We get down there and all the lights are off and I could see a sign that said "it's a boy!" and I am thinking well that's kinda of weird to have that up on the wall. They turned on the lights and yelled "Surprise baby shower" or some where along those lines. I was totally surprised and confused all at the same time.
According to Jon my surprise look on my face wasn't the best ever. So everyone didn't think that I was surprised. But I really was!! I was also trying not to cry the whole time. All the guys left with all the kids. After they left all the girls were asking if I was surprised and I REALLY was. They also then told me that it was all Jon's idea. Aww!! I felt so loved! Then they told me what they had planned for me. Dinner which was pasta, bread and salad Olive Garden style; desert which was chocolate tart with fruit; crystal light as the drink; playing games; opening presents and watching a movie. Let's just say that I was really excited that I wanted to shout for joy and jump up and down. But I didn't do that cause I didn't want to scare everyone.
It ended up being a great night and just what I needed!
